Welcome to CoP for EWM

Welcome to the website of the Community of Practice for Environmental Water Managers.

The Community of Practice exists to support those active in the field of environmental water management, whether their involvement is through practice, management, policy development or research. On this site you will find:

* Information on the objective of the Community of Practice
* A description of what a Community of Practice is, including a downloadable PowerPoint presentation on the concept as presented to potential Community members at a workshop held in Melbourne in July 2009.
* A definition of the term 'environmental water manager'. This definition is intended to cover all those who would be encouraged to join the Community of Practice.
* A description of the services that will be made available to support the Community of Practice, including a description of progress to date
* An application form to join the Community of Practice

This website is a public site open to all who may be interested in environmental water management in Australia or in the concept of a Community of Practice. Community members also have access to an exclusive Members Website containing a range of resources, contacts and information to the Community generally and environmental water managers specifically. Objective
At a workshop convened with environmental water managers in Melbourne in July 2009, an objective for the Community of Practice was developed. This is to:

"Improve the profession and practice of environmental water managers to achieve better environmental outcomes"

NEWS! Contributing to an 'Environmental Watering Event' Log

Members have expressed interest in sharing information about environmental watering events (EWE) throughout Australia. A key component of the Community of Practice is the sharing of information, so it would be useful for members to post details of upcoming watering events and to include details of the impacts and outcomes once the event has occurred. It may also be useful to include pictures.

These posts on individual environmental watering events should be placed in the forum section of the website. This will enable you to update information on your watering event, respond to questions from other group members, and post photos. It will also allow other group members to request more information and ask questions. The forum section is easy to use, and you can amend the material you post at any time.

A suggested format for advising the group of an upcoming watering event is:
- Begin a new forum topic by clicking on + Add a Discussion
- Give your discussion a title that makes the event, location and time clear. For example: 'EWE, Location, Scheduled date'
- Give information about the event that you think is relevant or important from the perspective of other members
- Add pictures of the area by clicking on 'Attach files' and following the prompts

Later you can return to your discussion and add information to it (you don't need to start a new discussion). It would be useful to include pictures of the area after watering, and some details on the outcomes of the event, lessons learned etc.

Get started and tell others about your EWE by clicking here.
